Retreat Highlights

  • Learn and grow from the self-awareness derived from yoga practice, as well as the stories we create and imagine.
  • Learn about yoga workshops, walks, and meditations, we will tell you stories and help you find and develop your own.
  • Learn about ourselves and what we want to express. Feelings can be verbalised, analogies made, and new understandings emerge.

Both yoga and stories can reflect our humanity back to us. We can learn and grow from the self-awareness derived from the practice of yoga as well as from the stories we heat and that we imagine. There is fun and wisdom to be found in this.

This retreat will consist of yoga classes, walks, meditations, we will tell you stories along the way and help you to find and develop your own stories.

Amanda Owen (Bespoke Yoga) and Sally Riddell (Ruby 9 yoga) invite you to share a weekend with them.

When we do yoga, we come back to ourselves – the essence of ourselves; not the faces we have for the outside world. There is a type of cleansing – a stripping away of the non- essential parts of or being.

Story telling can do this for us too. In creating our stories to move from inside our individual private experience to share with others, we learn about ourselves and what we want to express. Feelings can be verbalised, analogies made, and new understandings emerge.

Both yoga and our own stories can reflect ourself back to ourself – our humanity is reflected back to us. We can learn and grow from the self-awareness derived from seeing ourselves in new lights. A suspension of time and space.

No former experience in story telling or yoga is necessary – only an open mind and an open heart.

Our beautiful venue can be reached by train from Melbourne CBD, or you can drive yourself.

We have a range of accommodation from a tiny house, the homestead, glamping bell tents, you can pitch your own tent, or you can attend this retreat as a day visitor if you live nearby.

Whatever your choice, you will feel as though you are far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The retreat will consist of yoga classes, walks, meditations, a presentation of stories for you and a safe place for an exploration of your own personal stories.

Ruby 9 Yoga Teachers and Guideline Team

Sally Riddell (Ruby 9 Yoga) is a Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist and teacher of Vedic Chant from Perth, Western Australia who has trained in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya. Sally uses all the tools of yoga in a way that includes each person in a manner appropriate for them. Her personal style of teaching is inspired by the resonance of chant, the wonder of storytelling and the relevance of metaphor. She is passionate about the power of yoga, Vedic Chant, and meditation to guide and inform our daily life and the ways in which our lives intertwine with the rhythms of the natural world. Sally has led walking and yoga retreats in Western Australia, Spain, and India.

Amanda Owen: (Bespoke Yoga), is a Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist, Vedic Chant teacher, and was a performer in physical theatre before she became a yoga teacher in 1996.

She worked with theatre companies who devised shows which sprang from improvisation and storytelling.

As a performer, Amanda toured internationally, taking shows to the Sydney Opera House, the Edinburgh Festival, Brazil and Europe.

She met Sally while they were training to become teachers of Vedic Chant and they discovered their mutual interest in yoga and the theatre of storytelling.

And so, this collaboration was born.

“The rhythm of the daily yoga sessions, walks, creative writing inspirations, storytelling & meditation flowed through each day beautifully & the creative ideas & exercises will be things I continue to practice & develop. I would recommend this retreat to anyone whose life’s journey is leading them to explore a wholistic connection with the natural world, to anyone who values health, healing & wellbeing for themselves & for the world in which we live. And to those who value the wisdom & meaning that can be gained through myth & story, imagination & creativity.”
