Retreat Highlights
The Ribbon Reef
Lying on the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef, the Ribbon Reefs are home to some of the worlds most famous dive sites.
The reefs here thankfully have very little human contact, which has ensured that they can support an outstanding range of biodiversity and marine life for divers and snorkelers. Depth varies anywhere from 5 – 35M, making this a perfect destination for free divers of all experience levels.
There are dozens of unique dive sites within the Ribbon Reefs, including drift dives, wall dives, swim throughs, caves and exploring colourful coral gardens and bommies. With great visibility all year round you’ll be sure to witness as many of the GBR’s 1500 fish and 400 coral species as possible. Much of this life will be encountered in shallow waters between 23 and 29 degrees, and in fact it is rare that you’ll be diving deeper than 20 metres, except when practicing line diving of course.
WHAT IS BREATHLESS?
Breathless is the space between science and the unknown; the space between the head and the heart; between learning and feeling. The space between doing and being. It's the culmination of several industry leaders collective years of research into and practice of different breathing protocols and holistic wellbeing methods, studying under some of the world’s most renowned breathwork experts and investigating the science - both old and the new. Breathless combines well-known, ancient breathwork techniques with new and altogether revolutionary neuroscience and studies into human potential, in one place. We believe that by learning to become aware of our breath and how it impacts on us, we can influence our health, our mental state, the way we feel, the way we move; the way we live.
WHY SHOULD I COME ALONG?
Not only is Lady Elliot Island part of one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, but it's one of the most beautiful, breath-taking, exotic, and magical places on the entire planet.
It's not uncommon to hear people refer to this region as 'magical' - and we couldn't agree more. There's very few places on the planet that can match the wonder the exists in this special place - both above and below the surface.
On this five day/six night retreat hosted by industry leaders in their field, you will deepen your personal connection with the this natural wonder while undertaking daily freediving, snorkelling, yoga and breathwork classes, enjoying daily glass-bottom-boat trips to observe the reef from above, benefiting from guided island tours; witnessing Humpback and Manta Ray migration and experiencing a magical night dive!
Not only is it one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, but it is one of the most beautiful, breath-taking, exotic, and magical places on the entire planet.
It's common for people to refer to this part of the world as "magical" or "otherworldly". There are very few places in the world that can match it's beauty not only at the surface level, but also at the beauty that's just below the surface in the warm ocean waters.
Johannes
The BREATHLESS Team
Johannes Egberts is a alpine guide, master freediver instructor, yoga teacher, master free diver and breathwork obsessive.
After experiencing first hand the transformative power of breath in his own life, Johannes spent years studying, training and researching into all kinds of breathwork methods and
techniques under the guidance of world leading experts such as Wim Hof, Patrick McKeown and Laird Hamilton before setting up Breathless in 2019. Always teaching, always creating, always learning, Johannes has guided hundreds of people in his workshops, retreats and expeditions including the NRL NZ Warriors, David Goggins, Ludovico Einaudi to mention but a few.
No experience is required to join, we teach all levels of freediving including beginners. It's recommended to swim in the ocean regularly as preparation and get used to wearing some freediving equipment such as fins, a mask and a snorkel.
This retreat is for all fitness levels. No previous experience of freediving or breathwork is necessary and 4 days of freediving straight will give you the opportunity to perfect your skills and technique (as well as have a lot of fun).
You are welcome to bring you own. We will provide weights but can also provide fins, masks, snorkels, open cell wetsuits, weight belts, wetsuit gloves and socks.
